These twin attached dwellings for 2 generations of the same family in Seddon carefully negotiate the clients economic and programmatic concerns and the requirements of the residential context to deliver a unique re-interpretation of the typical suburban house.
The Hyde Street Houses match a variety of material backgrounds to form a montage of the history of the area, including steel roofing and timber cladding. These materials are artfully and subtly varied to form a building that appears almost in transition. The differentiation reinforces the intent of the client: different generations, but of the same family.
With excellent amenity, on-site water tanking and solar facilities, and timber sourced from renewable plantations, the project aims to be as environmentally sensitive as it is liveable.
