The project involved demolition of selected out buildings followed by the reusing of the side access driveway for the purpose of a shared accessway. Similar to the property at 13 Marcia Street, this shared accessway allows vehicular access to 2 garages, one for the existing dwelling and one for the proposed. A modest, single storey dwelling is positioned towards the rear (North West) of the property comprising of two bedrooms and associated living and dining spaces.
The additional dwelling is designed in such that it forms a reflection and translation of the modest materials dwellings nearby, however with a twist: the entire building is wrapped in roof tiles, providing a familiar visual impression for adjacent residents, but a uniquely personal abode for the owner. This response is a robust and highly considered architectural outcome. It recognises the requirement for quality building and respects the local context both environmentally and socially.
