With critical awareness of its historical context, both internally and surrounding, the Paisley Street Cinema Apartments will form a collage of form, colour and program to deliver a new standard in both retail and inner-urban living.
Sitting on top of, and including, the old Paisley Street Footscray Cinema, the project includes substantial heritage initiatives aimed at restoring the dilapidated building to its former glory as an internally circulated dual floor retail complex with a boutique focus. An additional 7 floors of 42 apartments are to be provided, ranging from studio living to 2 bedroom luxury penthouses.
This project incorporates a greater urban vision through re-configuration of the ground floor street frontages that activate key laneways nearby. This is performed both programmatically and through a striking “unwrapping curtains” facade that effectively negotiates front and rear conditions in a contemporary reading of the cinematic process.
